Hello my Moons ! Happy Labour Day.

It's wedding season and the best time to know more about skincare routines for that glowing skin !

I hope you have read the Basics of Skincare Part I, which was a step by step guide of how to follow a skincare routine on a daily basis. If not, read the Part I now to understand in detail the daily steps mentioned in this post.

In today's post, which is the Part 2 of Basics of Skincare, I will be giving a step by step guide for weekly skincare routine and give an insight about monthly routine. Following weekly routine is extremely necessary if you want the desired effect on your skin.

So focus and read the following steps :

WEEKLY ROUTINE 1 : SCRUB

Following weekly routine along with the daily routine is what skincare regime is all about. There is only one extra step that makes all the difference which is to be followed twice a week. This step is to be sandwiched between cleansing and toning.

Step 1 : Cleanse

Step 2 : Scrub ( twice a week )

  • Scrubbing is to be followed after cleansing your face and before toning.

  • Scrubs consists of small granules which help exfoliate your skin and clean the pores from deep inside

  • Scrubbing helps regulate blood circulation

  • Exfoliation is a must to take off all the clingy dirt and dead skin cells which accumulate on your face and body over time

  • You can scrub your body too to get that polished skin

How to :

  1. Take a coin size amount and apply on wet/dry (as instructed on the scrub) face & neck

  2. Spread the product with help of fingers all over the face and neck by applying small amount of pressure

  3. Keep in mind not to use scrub with harsh granules or apply to much pressure as that can lead to irritation on skin

  4. Massage the product in upward circular motion for 2-3 minutes

  5. Wash it off with cold water and pat dry

Step 3 : Tone

Further you can continue with your daily routine steps depending whether you prefer to add scrubbing step in morning or night routine.

WEEKLY ROUTINE 2 : MASK

Masking is a commonly used step in India. Since you are a teenager your mother or grandma must have asked you to apply different kind of paste on your face on weekly/ monthly basis to keep that glow going.

Today masking has gone to another level and there are so many types of masks that are available today which you can try as per yours and your skin's need, or just make one at home.

  • Masking is to be done once or twice a week after scrubbing your skin.

  • Scrubbing cleans your pores and helps the skin to absorb all the goodness of the mask.

  • Further to enhance the effectiveness, you can take a few minute of steam after scrubbing and before applying the mask. Steam helps open up your pores, detoxify the skin, and helps the mask and serum penetrate deeper layers of your skin.

  • After taking the steam you can also apply a nose pore strip that can extract your white and blackheads, or you can use an extractor.

Step 1 : Cleanse

Step 2 : Scrub

Step 3 : Steam (optional)

Step 4 : Nose pore strips or black head extractor (optional)

Step 5 : Mask (once a week)

  • Masking is skin food, the more natural the mask, the better. That is my opinion.

  • Masks help soothe the irritated skin

  • It usually leave you with a glowing and radiant skin

  • Masks help heal the skin and can fight different skin issues, depending on the mask you are using.

  • Improves texture of your skin with regular use

  • There are various masks available in market or you can use your weekly home made mask too

Step 6: Tone

Some people tone before using mask, but personally I feel toning helps close pores and will now allow the mask to penetrate deep into the skin. So I prefer toning after.

Also it can take off the residue of the mask if any.

Step 7 : Serum / moisturizer / night cream

I suggest using a good serum after masking and toning as it is another skin food and your skin is already in a state of acceptance and serums will work best after masks.

Or you can continue with your daily routine steps depending whether you prefer to add masking step in morning or night routine.

I will be doing a post just to explain different types of masks and how to use them soon. Stay tuned! Till then, just following these 2 steps every week regularly, will take your skin to another level in a just a few months time.

#AABtip : It's okay to use a gentle scrub with light pressure on acne prone skin. Scrubbing this way, helps speed up the healing process. But remember to use a very gentle and dermatologically tested scrub with light hands only.

MONTHLY ROUTINES :

  • Weekly routines mentioned above are as good as cleanups that you get in parlors. So you can save a lot of time and money doing it just at home.

  • However for the Bleaches and Facials you can visit your parlor once a month or once in 2-3 months depending upon your need and requirement.

  • Their massage techniques are more therapeutic than what we do at home, unless you know the way around it!

  • So I recommend doing your monthly facials and bleaches at parlors

That's all for today! Wishing you all a healthy and glowing skin ! Stay tuned for my post about different types of masks and how to use them. Till then, see you next Tuesday with a product review.
